The developers are working to remove Persona as an option for creating new accounts. I would like for us to have a page explaining why the change is necessary that we can link to from places in the UI where we're making changes.
Stuff that might go on the page:
- Persona project has been decommissioned[1]
- How to connect an existing account with Persona sign in to a Github account
- Timeline for changes (probably we will make an announcement in the Summer)
- We are still doing planning around whether or not we will offer other sign in options in addition to Github

Screen shot of coming UI changes. The little "?" next to Persona would link to this page.

This is a great article for how to connect to github but I don't think it satisfies the need to have some kind of friendly communication with the community.
I created https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/MDN/Contribute/Persona_Sign_In_on_MDN

Janet could you please review https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/MDN/Contribute/Persona_Sign_In_on_MDN from a community management perspective.
Sheppy, could you make sure it's in the right place?

I changed "September 30" to "October 31" in both places where it occurred. If that's not correct, help me understand so I can explain what's happening during October.
I also moved the main call-to-action to a warning box at the top of the page.

As I understand it, Persona itself is shutting down at the end of November but we plan to shut off our use of it on November 1 to give us some wiggle room. I stand ready to be corrected, though.

Right, so that would imply that October 31st is the last day you can sign in with Persona. It was stated as September 30th in the article, so I changed it.
What I want to know is: Was my change correct? Or is something else happening in October such that the last day to sign in September 30th, even though the "shut-down" on MDN is November 1?

You're right. I don't know why I thought September was the month before November when I wrote that. I mean, those months are numbered, for crying out loud. :)
