Details

Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 10.0; WOW64; rv:48.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/48.0
Build ID: 20160420030213

[Affected versions]:
Nightly 48.0a1
Firefox Developer Edition 47.0a2
Firefox 46 RC build 4
Firefox 45.0.2 RC

[Affected platforms]:
Windows 10 x 64 bit
Ubuntu 15.04
Mac OS X 10.9

[Steps to reproduce]:
1. Navigate to Facebook and log in
2. When the password manager prompts, select Remember the password
3. Log out from Facebook
4. Login again but add a wrong password
5. In the Facebook wrong credentials page add manually the correct password and click on the log in button
6. Click on the key icon located in the upper left side of the navigation bar.

[Expected result]:
After step 5, the navigation to your Facebook account should be allowed and the user Key icon should not be present in the upper left side of the navigation bar.

[Actual result]:
The navigation to your Facebook account is allowed and the Key icon is present in the upper left side of the navigation bar. When clicking on the Key icon, the password manager is displayed prompting you to update with the wrong password.

[Regression range]:
I will investigate and come back with the results as soon as possible.

[Additional notes]:
This is not an issue specific only to Facebook, reproduced it also on Twitter and other websites.
This is just how our password manager works. We don't make any attempt to detect whether the login was successful; the user can simply not click Update/Remember at that point. This is why we are able to offer to save passwords when a form submission is cancelled.
