User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Ubuntu; Linux x86_64; rv:46.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/46.0
Build ID: 20160425115534

Steps to reproduce:

I opened firefox and browse.
This happens regularly since FF46.0 version on Ubuntu 14.04

Actual results:

Window turned black, except the content of the webpage.
All top area with menus, bookmarks, input areas becomes black.
Hovering with the mouse on top of the items brings them back to usual color.

Screenshot taken on gitlab

Expected results:

Window shoud not turn black
Other related issues mention Fox Tab but i've not installed Fox Tab, whatever it is.

FF uses the default theme
Ubuntu uses "Ambiance" theme for Windows and GTK+, and "Ubuntu mono dark" for icons
FF46 supports Gtk3 now, could you test with a standard theme.

As mentionned in comment 2 this issue happens when Firefox uses the default theme allready. I've never used themes for FF. There is another issue with the default theme (even when it doesn turn black) : the dropdown menus are dark with white writing. That's OK even if that's not what i wish, but there is an issue : lots if icons are dark and cant be seen anymore on such a dark background.

I've now switched to 2nd theme in firefox list : "Douce lumière" [fr] ("Soft light" [En] ?) and it seems the issue is fixed. The dropdown menus are ok and as for now, firefox window hasnt turn totally black.

I can't change Ubuntu's Ambiance theme because other applications rely on it.

FYI : with "Soft light" firefox theme, ff doesnt turn black, but there are moments of black flash or black flickering mostly when i scroll. As if window was painted black and then painted back to its normal state. It's not a big issue really, it's not a pain, but its not as smooth as it should be.

Alas, "clear light" theme for FF turns black also after a short while of browsing.

Same for "Vegetarian" theme also.

That gtk3 migration seems very buggy.

Are you able to download and try a Mozilla build, please?
This doesn't seem related to native theming only.
It could be related to GTK interaction, but it seems like a graphics bug.

If this is still reproducible with the current Firefox release can you please attach a copy of your about:support?
