User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Ubuntu; Linux x86_64; rv:46.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/46.0
Build ID: 20160429154717

Steps to reproduce:

Thunderbird 38.7.2
add-on: Lightning 4.0.5.2
Linux Mint Mate 17.3 64-bit
================
I have Thunderbird add-on Lightning enabled to allow scheduling of events with reminders. When the reminders are due, then the Reminders window appears with any active reminders.

Actual results:

When event reminders are due, then the Lightning Reminders window appears with active reminders. If the Window Menu triangle in the upper left corner of the window is clicked, then the Window Menu appears but the item Minimize is disabled (grayed out).

Expected results:

The Minimize option in the Lightning Reminders window Window Menu is enabled and available when I use Linux Mint Mate 13 32-bit.. This is while using the same versions of Thunderbird (38.7.2) & Lightning (4.0.5.2).
=============
The support documentation for Linux Mint Mate 17.3 64-bit indicates that it now includes additional support for windows or other graphic items. Maybe something related to that interacts with Lightning's Reminder window/dialog to disable Minimize.

Hey! I tried reproducing the bug on Windows Thunderbird 45.0 Lightning 4.7 .

I created a new event and set a reminder to 5 minutes before. The reminder window appeared when it was time with the list of events and the minimize button was enabled.

I hope this is the window that you were talking about.

Could you update Thunderbird and try again ?
I captured this screenshot of the Lightning Reminder window with the menu displayed on Linux Mint Mate 17.3 64-bit. The menu shows the disabled Minimize menu item (as well as the disabled Maximize menu item).
I captured a new screenshot of the Lightning reminder window with triangle element visible. In my first screenshot the mouse cursor was masking the triangle element. When this triangle is clicked in the Lightning reminder window, the menu drops down.

Yes, that is the correct window. However, the Windows and Linux versions of the window seem to differ in the details of how they present the minimize option.

The distribution/version of Linux I am using (Linux Mint Mate 17.3 64-bit) automatically includes Thunderbird 38.7.2. I was not aware that a newer version of Thunderbird was available. I am not familiar with how to upgrade applications in Linux but I will investigate this (for Thunderbird 45.0, Lightning 4.7).
Since it appears that my Thunderbird 38.7.2 was the latest release just before Thunderbird 45.0, and that Linux Mint normally has minimal lag until the latest Thunderbird and Firefox versions are updated in the Linux Mint repositories, I will wait for that Linux Mint repository update. I don't consider myself experienced enough to attempt the Thunderbird update on my own when it is not included in the Linux Mint repositories.

Also, since I have been focused on this issue for the past day, I have seen in Linux Mint forums that there are recent issues with how Linux Mint 17.3 handles various GUI components. These issues seem to be understood so I expect in time these will be resolved. These issues could be the root of the problem in the Lightning reminder window.

So I will do nothing further with Thunderbird (or Lightning) for now except to monitor Linux Mint 17.3 updates as well as Thunderbird behavior.

I expect that updates to the Linux Mint repositories will eventually address this problem.

I will note any Thunderbird behavior changes regarding this bug report as Linux Mint updates occur.
Component: Untriaged → Alarms
Product: Thunderbird → Calendar
Version: 38 Branch → unspecified
Today I observed this same problem in a window unrelated to Thunderbird or Lightning.

When I right click on any file and select Properties for viewing, then click on the triangle/arrowhead in the upper left corner of the properties window/dialog to show the Window Menu, the Minimize and Maximize items are greyed out just as they were for the calendar reminders window.

See attached screenshot.

Therefore this appears to be a Linux Mint system problem--not a Thunderbird/Lightning problem.

I will mark this closed or resolved (if I can).
