bugzilla v2.10 suppose a new bug is entered and then marked as a dupe later on. why can't the status of the duplicate bug be automatically marked as closed? so then there is only ever 1 bug per issue open at any one time, rather than lots of duplicates lying around the system in various states of resolution.

On some installations, there is an established process that someone else has to verify that a dupe is in fact a dupe, and of the right bug. That's part of the normal verification process, i.e. the status is then changed from resolved to verified.

yeah, WONTFIX - what if you made a typo in the bug# you marked as the dupe against? CUSTRES may allow some of this to be customised, though
