User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 10.0; Win64; x64; rv:47.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/47.0 Build ID: 20160604131506 Steps to reproduce: Whenever one visit a site that has Google Adsense ads (300x200 spot) that displays video (e.g. vidible) the browser will freeze and then display a script error message. Actual results: Whole browser freezes. It doesn't matter if the video is playing on the other tab. Whatever you are doing will be frozen. This happens every single time without fail. I have even tried reinstall Firefox. Same problem. I was using Windows 7 and now Windows 10, both 64-bits. Same problem. Expected results: browser not freezing when video ads displayed

Hi, Can you please provide a link so I can test this on my end? Also, is this still reproducible on your end ? If yes, can you please retest this using latest Nightly build (https://nightly.mozilla.org/) and report back the results ? When doing this, please use a new clean Firefox profile, maybe even safe mode, to eliminate custom settings as a possible cause (https://goo.gl/PNe90E). Thanks.

Hi, You can go to http://www.timeanddate.com/date/dateadd.html and keep refreshing the page until you see a video ads (not flash ads) showing on their 300x250 spot. One of the most common one is "All Today's News Videos!!!" which will show a still ads first then play by itself a minute later. I have tried with the Nightly. Initially it seems ok. But after a short while refreshing the page to get the video ads to show up, it just showed the waiting icon going round and round. I can at least switch between the different tabs however but all tabs are showing blanks. Every few seconds a little drop down message shows up that says "A webpage is slowing down your browser. What would you like to do?" It shows up very fast for less than a second. But it shows every 5 seconds. With the regular Firefox, the whole browser just froze and no switching between tabs whatsoever. The only extension I have are "Bookmarks Checker", "McAfee WebAdvisor" and "Video DownloadHelper". No additional plugins besides the 4 defaults.

I have tested the issue with the link you provided but I could not reproduce it due to the fact that I did not found video ads( I think is because of localization). Just to be clear do you have a crash or your browser freezes? If you have a crash there should be in about:crashes a crash ID. Please provide that crash.

You will need to refresh it maybe a dozen times before the video ads shows. Usually it shows up more during the evening EST. The browser simply freezes, every time. The only way to "get out" if when the script error message pops up and debug is selected. Then you can close the tab and unfreeze the browser. Choosing the continue or stop the script does nothing. The only other way out is CNTL-ALT-DEL to shut it down via Task Manager.
Can you please paste in the graphics section of about:support?
Can you please link to the crash report? You should be able to find it in about:crashes
(In reply to Anthony Jones (:kentuckyfriedtakahe, :k17e) from comment #6) > Can you please link to the crash report? You should be able to find it in > about:crashes Hi Anthony, There is no crash report. When the issue occurs, the browser freezes. Can't do a thing on Firefox except CNTL-ALT-DEL using Task Manager to shut it down.

I have attached a screen print of the issue on the first message. You can try http://www.timeanddate.com/date/dateadd.html and keep refreshing for a video ad to come up.

I can't repro the problem either. Can you record a video to show how to repro the issue? Thanks!

With only 4 normal tabs open, Firefox eating up more than 3GB of memory! The other browsers only less than 100MB! Even when it first started up without anything Firefox takes more than 100MB! I am switching to Chrome.

Were you able to find a page playing the Google ads video? The memory issue with Firefox may also play a part in this. I have a server configuration PC with dual CPUs and Firefox doesn't work well at all. It has degraded over the years. Nothing like it used to be. Chrome and Edge are much leaner and faster now.

Btw, according to your description in commment 0, this is not really a crash but an unresponsiveness issue, right?

That is correct. But unresponsive is just as bad as crash.

But unresponsive is just as bad as crash. Yes. But having a correct/precise description of the issue is critical to debugging. I will change the bug title.
Summary: Firefox crashes whenever Google video ads display on a site → Firefox unresponsive whenever Google video ads display on a site
Per comment 16, this is not a media playback issue but some malicious or bad scripts that hog the main thread and cause unresponsive UI. Not sure which component we should assign this bug. Is it DOM or Javascipt?

Naveed - where should this bug go?

Has anyone had any luck replicating this bug? Does it still occur on FF49 (current release? Does it only occur on x64 builds? @qtapioca@gmail.com - have you tried Nightly? Have you tried a 32bit build? There have been changes recently to our Slow Script Dialog logic in Nightly. The 32bit vs 64bit could be a useful data point for us to replicate the problem. Thank you for all your help.

I see several kind of ads including Flash animation, Flash video, and HTML5 video, while refreshing. so far I cannot reproduce the Slow Script dialog on Firefox 49.0.1 on OSX. also, I don't see any request that contains "urstingScript" in its URL (that's in the screenshot). Is the script and the line number always same? If so, what's the URL? also, have you tried on safe mode [1] and clean profile [2] ?
