Often when I try to paste text into a form's textarea (e.g. when forwarding
a bug from the Debian BTS to bugzilla.gnome), the text isn't pasted at the
mouse cursor's location (where galeon usually pastes, although the text
cursor's location is the much more intuitive place for pastes to happen
IMHO), but at an apparently random place in the text. This is very
annoying, in particular as there is no easy way to undo the paste.

I don't have any additional hard data to report on this. I have the
impression the problem is more likely to occur when the contents of the
textarea, or the contents of the paste-buffer are fairly large (e.g. a
couple of paragraphs).

What mozilla build is this galeon version based on? This problem was addressed
very recently and should be fixed on current tip builds...

This galeon is linked dynamically against libgtkembedmoz and declares a package
dependency on mozilla-browser (>=2:0.9.8) for it (see
http://packages.debian.org/unstable/non-us/mozilla-browser.html). The changelog
for mozilla-browser shows it to be a more or less vanilla build of 0.9.8 (no CVS
updates are mentioned, but it includes a number of patches (mostly ones from
bugzilla and portability ones for IA64, HPPA and S390).

The relevant bug is bug 83650, which was not fixed until after 0.9.8.

As Boris mentioned above, this should be fixed in 0.9.9 by the checkin for bug 
83650 which also fixed bug 97207.
