User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Ubuntu; Linux x86_64; rv:47.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/47.0 Build ID: 20160606113944 Firefox for Android Steps to reproduce: Tapped the "Tap to lean more" notification that appeared at the bottom of the Aurora Android app. Actual results: about:accounts?action=signup opened in a new tab. Expected results: A page with an explanation of what Firefox Sync is (and how it has changed, which the notification hinted at) should have opened instead.

We don't have an "about sync" page on fennec, but we really should have one. It could describe the benefits of sync, the encryption, etc. - in an easily digestible fashion. Anthony, is there a bug that's already tracking this work? Ryan, is there a desktop equivalent?

Sounds like a bug to me! Dont think there's one tracking this work.

Can I get a screenshot of this state?

Here's an example of "sync not connected, showing a 'get started' button" state. The button takes user directly to a login page, which seems non-ideal. http://imgur.com/a/xToji

Sorry it's taken so long for me to digest this. Why is this notification happening to begin with? Seems to me the easiest thing is to stop firing the notification, which just seems like unpolished onboarding.

This notification is just one entry point leading to the page. I certainly agree that we should probably just kill off these notifications for now, but the underlying issue will still remain. I filed a meta bug 1386105 to clump together these various issues.

It's hard to determine if we need to rip things out or to update strings to be more useful. (maybe add some modern creatives too) I'm not sure we can easily measure how many accounts this notification is driving but if we updated it, it could be non-negligeable. Feeley, can you investigate this more? Does it need a polish or is it garbage?
Flags: needinfo?(adavis) → needinfo?(rfeeley)
I've seen this notification in action though I don't have a screenshot to share. It's not warranted and should be removed.

OK, let's figure out what's involved in removing these notifications. Going to flag core team for triage. Jing-wei, do you mind taking a look?

Okay, I can handle removing the notifications and we'll have a triage tomorrow to see when should we start to do this change.

This just happened again. A message appeared, from memory "Sync is brand new and easier to use than ever. Tap here to learn more", and tapping on it once again led incongruously to the signup page. Most users likely don't use Sync, so this is a wasted opportunity to entice them.

Re-triaging per https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1473195 Needinfo :susheel if you think this bug should be re-triaged.
