Steps to reproduce:

I updated to Version 47.0.1




Actual results:

After that, when I go to the "Add-Ons" manager, none are listed. I am greeted with a rectangular box that says, "You Don't Have Any Add-Ons of this type installed."

The add-ons are still present and active; but I cannot access them to check options etc.


Expected results:

I should be able to see my list of add-ons.
sounds like an issue caused by some installed add-on.
Can you check safe-mode?

In fact - going to "troubleshooting information" -- there are no add-ons listed under "extensions" on that page (yet, all of them seem to be operational, currently).

If you see your add-ons in the add-on manager in safe mode, so one of your add-ons is faulty by causing this issue.
In safe mode, disable add-ons one by one then restart to see if the list is back. You should find the culprit lik that.
No - restarting in safe mode does *not* show the add-ons in the add-on manager. I tried that (assuming an updated add-on tweaked something). Nor do any extensions show up under "troubleshooting information" -- even in safe mode.
Chris, if you're willing to help us with some troubleshooting, doing any/all of these would be helpful:

1. Check for any errors or other interesting messages in the browser console (which is different from the web console that you may be familiar with if you use devtools, the browser console can be accessed at Tools -> Web Developer -> Browser Console)
2. Attach or send the contents of about:support
3. Attach or send a copy of the extensions.json file from your profile directory (http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_folder_-_Firefox)
4. Attach or send a copy of extensions.ini from your profile directory

Chris, it looks like the contents of extensions.json got wiped out.
I believe there is an open bug about noticing and rebuilding when this happens, but to get you unstuck for now, can you try the following:
1. Quit Firefox
2. Move extensions.json out of your profile
3. Restart Firefox

extensions.json should be rebuilt and you should see all your extensions again in the add-ons manager.

Separately, I'd like to understand how it got wiped out in the first place, do you think it happened when you upgraded to 47?  Do you know if you upgraded from 46 or from something else?

Before I do that - I can tell you this.

I've sort-of done that before. I quite FF; then renamed extensions.json to extensions-old.json. After that, it rebuilt, and everything worked again.

BUT.

I think it started when I upgraded to 47.0.1 -- at that point, No-Squint was no longer supported; so I had to add-in No-Squint-Plus. FF took, easily, 15 minutes to load; and when I did, NONE of my add-ons were enabled (and every one opened in its own new tab to enable it), and then the program would freeze.

When I restarted again, I could go to the Add-ons page and enable each one of them; then restart -- and when I rebooted again -- I would get the message above (when I'd go back to check on them).

    
    

    
  
This sounds similar to what was reported in bug 1264096.
Since it is quite infrequent and we don't have concrete steps to reproduce, it is difficult to make progress on this.
However, the information you've provided is helpful.  Just one clarification:

To be clear, the 15 minutes was for firefox to restart in order to install no squint plus?

Not exactly ...

Let me see if I can recall things specifically (although, the order may be off a bit):

1. Upgraded to 47.0.1
2. No-Squint - no longer supported
3. Had to restart FF
4. Upon restart -- FF would not "start" up. It showed up in task manager, but no window ever opened. The net result was - after about 15 minutes, my computer "froze" and I had to restart the computer
5. I learned -- the hard way -- not to launch FF upon the computer's restart. The computer needs to restart fully, before I try to launch FF.
6. When I did launch FF it would take 15 minutes to get a window up onto the screen. At that point - much like the bug you referenced - every add-on opened in it's own tab. I didn't actually 'accept' any of them. I clicked on my home tab and closed all tabs to right. Then I launched the add-ons page and enabled each one there. Restarted FF (which goes quicker now) and everything seems to work; but the add-ons page shows *no* extensions (which is where we started from).

That seems to be the order - but I could be slightly off. Still, everything that I've listed *has* happened (including the endless launch of FF that froze my computer -- I was convinced my HD or something else was fried or malfunctioning).

But, yes, everything began with the upgrade to 47.0.1

    
    

    
  
So - another update (and, sadly, this seems to be resolved; but not the way I wanted).

The morning after I posted this - my hard drive *did* crash. AppData (where extensions, etc. are stored) was corrupted. I was able to rescue things from the drive; but NOT the extensions / bookmarks.

So, now - a whole new hard drive, new install for Windows and everything else (including FF 48.0) ... of course, I no longer have the issue.

I would've loved to have grabbed a list of my extensions (I checked what I posted above, but it doesn't look like it's there). I'd also LOVE to figure out a way to backup my extensions and configurations, since that takes more time than anything else, when it comes to re-installation .......

    
    

    
  
Oh no, sorry to hear that.  For the future, you can try Firefox Sync (https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/sync/)
