My preferences is configured to open a tabbed browser in every
possible situation (all boxes checked).

Up to Mozilla 0.9.8 milestone release, when I pressed enter,
the tabbed browser was activated. Then I download a  Nightly
build and suddenly, when I press enter in the bar,
the current page is exchanged for a new paged
containing the address I typed.

Reproducible: Always

The previous behaviour was a bug, the correct one is to open tabs only on
Ctrl+enter (see the prefs. panel).
