Bug 1180944 adds the One-Off buttons to the Awesomebar, we should add an option in about:preferences#search to disable them.

I don't know if there's a plan to expose such a thing. What's the reasoning behind the request? Do they create any issue? For now there's an about:config pref browser.urlbar.oneOffSearches Also, the feature is Nightly only for now. Let's see what Stephen thinks.

This preference shouldn't be exposed in the UI, we don't intend to keep it; it's there only to restrict the feature to Nightly until we fix the follow-up bugs. The Search preference pane can already disable one-off buttons: just uncheck the checkbox next to each of the search plugins; when they are all unchecked, the whole area at the bottom of the searchbar and awesomebar panels disappears.

(In reply to Florian Quèze [:florian] [:flo] from comment #2) > when they are all > unchecked, the whole area at the bottom of the searchbar and awesomebar > panels disappears. Cool, I didn't know this. Would still be nice if the column in the prefs pane would have any useful text, rather than having to guess (Even just a "Show").

Here's my use-case: I moved the search to the hamburger-menu, therefore i would like to remove the one-off buttons from the awesomebar, currently this is not possible.

I did, and while this is nice to know, i like to have the option to switch search-engines in the hamburger-menu, but i would like to disable the feature in the location-bar. Currently this is possible because of the hidden pref, thats why i would love to have an supported option in about:preferences#search. ust making sure this use-case has been discussed, after seeing this weeks location-bar kerfuffle. ;]

Prefs substantially increase the maintenance cost of features and this is not a case where the cost/benefit ratio is worthwhile.
