User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; WOW64; rv:47.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/47.0
Build ID: 20160623154057
Steps to reproduce:
Open any PDF document. In my case this was usually openning within Fiefox using acrobat plugin.
Actual results:
Starting from some recent version, Firefox complains that my plugin is outdated and proposes to install a new one. However, I have full Acrobat 9.x (latest I checked for updates), but FF redirects me to the installation of the Acrobar READER plug-in. If I would update, I would loose functionality that I paid for.
Expected results:
Either FF should bother Adobe to fix the bugs in 9.x
OR
Firefox should offer me a way to disable this warning ones and forever.
May be the 2nd option exists already but I am not aware because many settings were removed from options (probably to make FF not much better than competitors)

Firefox: 51.0a1, Build ID: 20160810030202
User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; Win64; x64; rv:51.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/51.0
I have tested this issue on the latest Firefox (48.0.1) release and latest Nightly (51.0a1) build. I don't have full Acrobat 9.x installed but I have tested this with Adobe Acrobat Reader v 2015.007.0050 installed. In Firefox "Options" -> "Applications", I have set the "Use Adobe Acrobat (in Firefox)" action to "Portable Document Format (PDF)" content and I have opened a PDF document. The document was successfully opened without getting any message in order to install a new version of Adobe PDF plugin.
Ed, can you please go to "about:addons", click the "Plugins" section and check what version of Adobe PDF plug-in you have?
Also, can you please retest this using latest Firefox release and latest Nightly build (https://nightly.mozilla.org/) and report back the results ? When doing this, please use a new clean Firefox profile, maybe even safe mode, to eliminate custom settings as a possible cause (https://goo.gl/PNe90E).

Hi Cosmin,
I am now at the other PC, but the problem is here also, but with Acrobat 10!
In about:addons it says: Adobe Acrobat 10.1.16.3 and a red warning that it is vulnerable and should be updated.
Unfortunately, I do not have so much time to mess up with nighty builds and clean profiles. However the simple question is: How Firefox knows that plugin is vulnerable? Does it check the version number? Is 10.1.16.3 vulnerable?
P.S. If I start "Acrobat X Pro" as application and in the menu choose "Help|Check for updates", it says "no updates available", i.e. the same results as with other PC and Acrobat 9. Current Firefox here is 48.0

Ed, it will be great if you can try to reproduce the issue with a new clean profile in order to see if some configuration affects the Adobe Acrobat plugin.
Maybe this link will help you https://goo.gl/9RZljy.
Also, I will assign a component and maybe someone with more experience regarding this issue could provide some feedback.

Cosmin, the new profile does the same (which was obvious for me). Checked on 48.0.
