I think we've talked about this before, and it would drastically increase the size of MozillaBuild. But it's going to become necessary someday...unless we treat downloading Rust as we treat downloading MSVC, i.e. expect the user to install it.

Also, isn't MozillaBuild headed for the chopping block due to the work on msys2 support?

Yes, this is covered by bug 1177128 and the msys2 environment (which will hopefully be announced next week once the configure bugs preventing its use have landed).
