I have not noticed this before today. The issue is that on many different sites a small message (in fact, any message, except for when cursoring over the text on tabs, that appears fine) is given a rather large tooltip no matter how small the text amount is: Firefox_Big_Tooltip.png I am running Ubuntu GNOME 16.04 with GNOME 3.20 and Firefox 48. I initially reported this issue here: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/firefox/+bug/1612251 But thought I should also do so upstream.
Can you provide the URL of the page the issue happens? (the URL of the page in the screenshot)

This happens on almost every (if not every) website for me. But the URL for that specific page in the screenshot is: http://www.japantimes.co.jp/

I cannot reproduce it on clean install of Ubuntu GNOME 16.04 (64bit) with GNOME 3.20.2 (updated by |sudo add-apt-repository ppa:gnome3-team/gnome3-staging| command and dist-upgrade) and Firefox 48.0 (48.0+build2-0ubuntu0.16.04.1 package) Does the issue happen with safe mode and clean profile of Firefox?
I will get back to you on your questions. But you should also add the ppa:gnome3-team/gnome3 PPA for some things the staging one requires, I don't know if that will allow you to reproduce it, but it's worth a try.
still not reproducible with ppa:gnome3-team/gnome3 and dist-upgrade

Hi Nikita, I tested this in Ubuntu 16.04 amd64, but I cannot reproduce it. Can you provide "about:support" information ? Is this regression ? If this is regression issue, Can you provide the regression window using mozregression tool? Detail information about mozregression can be found here: http://mozilla.github.io/mozregression/install.html Thanks --- Version 51.0a1 Build ID 20160816030459 Update Channel nightly User Agent Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64; rv:51.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/51.0

Sorry not to get back to you sooner, I had some trouble myself in reproducing the bug after a restart, however from time to time it does popup. I am with the stable release channel, so not sure how I would know if it's a regression... I tested this with all the addons listed at comment 7 and could not reproduce it. I am on Ubuntu 16.04 with gnome-session 3 and Firefox 48. Is it still an issue ?

Closing this as incomplete due to inactivity and lack of response from the reporter. If anyone can still reproduce it on latest versions, feel free to reopen the bug and provide more information. Thanks

Sorry for not replying sooner. I am unable to reproduce this issue, and it hasn't showed up on later versions of Firefox. I will reopen if it occurs again.
