Even if bug 108938 is fixed ([X] should be on each tab), the tabbed browsers
should *not* show a close widget ([X] button) when there is only one tab.
I show the tabbed browser interface even when there is only one tab because I
hate having things jump up and down when the second/penultimate tab is
added/removed. I've never tried to use the close widget when there was only one
tab, but the point is that the widget should either not be there, or it should
close the entire window when invoked.
I think that closing the entire window is a bit more than a user might expect,
so I suggest that the appropriate thing to do is just to *not* have a close
widget when there's only one tab.

I agree, this makes good sense. I also always have the tabbed interface open,
even w/ 1 tab. Pressing the [x] in this situation has no noticeable effect.

X should not be hidden, it should be (and look) disabled. See bug 109651.
