User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Ubuntu; Linux x86_64; rv:48.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/48.0 Build ID: 20160728203720 Steps to reproduce: Open a new tab and paste a URL (using middle click, because that's what I do ... but Ctrl+V may also reproduce the issue). Actual results: Sometimes (difficult to predict, but more common when it's been a while since the user last interacted with the location bar), the Awesome Bar drop-down menu does not appear, so there is a valid URL in the location bar but no drop-down. In this state, pressing Enter does nothing. Expected results: Even if there is no Awesome Bar drop-down, the browser should still immediately navigate to a pasted URL. Generally users paste valid URLs so there's no need to validate it or check history if the user immediately hits Enter. This issue seems to have been caused by the new location bar in Firefox 48.

Paul, Could not reproduce the bug with middle click, but I can reproduce on Release 47.0.1 and 48.0 on Windows 7, with following scenario: Open new tab(any page, e.g.: "https://www.google.ro/"), select the url and then copy and paste(with CTRL+V or right click). Result: the Awesome Bar drop-down menu does not appear.

Re "In this state, pressing Enter does nothing" - does it work if you press SPACE? I have a similar bug (see previous) and SPACE is a workaround.
Pretty much any input on the line will cause the Awesome Bar drop-down to appear ... except Enter, which probably requires the drop-down to already be present. Arrow keys should do the trick too. Of course this doesn't help if you're used to slapping a URL in the bar, hitting enter, and switching back to another tab while it loads ... you find later that nothing has happened.
Hi all, A similar issue happens to me in Firefox Nightly when the Universal Search (Test Pilot add-on) is active. After disabling it everything works as expect. User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64; rv:51.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/51.0 OS: Linux 4.6.6-300.fc24.x86_64 Build ID: 20160824030337
