User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; WOW64; rv:48.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/48.0
Build ID: 20160823121617

Steps to reproduce:

- Focus on Awesome bar (which shows the URL of the current page)
- Press down arrow

Actual results:

Sometimes, I just see general history entries as if I click the triangle button on an empty Awesome bar.
Sometimes, I see history entries (?) that are relevant for the current URL in the Awesome bar (e.g. if I am on Facebook, I only get other Facebook pages).

In the first case, if I continue to press down, the content of the pulldown menu changes to only show a line for open URL (which is the same as currently in the Awesome bar) and one for switch to tab with URL (which is the currrently open tab).

Expected results:

First, behavior for pressing the triangle and the down key should be consistent.
Second, the content should not suddenly change if I start to move down through the entries of the pull down menu.
Third, *never* show the option to open URL or to switch to tab with URL if this is the active tab.
Component: Untriaged → Location Bar
I think currently the dropdown arrow always shows the typed history. Maybe it should only do that on an empty location bar and that would solve the consistency problem.

I cannot reproduce the content changing when moving through the entries though, any better steps to reproduce that? did you change any of the default options or are you using some add-on that may touch the location bar?

The switch to tab bug is already known and filed elsewhere (in general please only describe one bug per report).
I tested this a bit more and I think I know what is happening:

When I press down to open the pulldown menu I see the previous contents of that menu before it gets repopulated with whatever makes sense for the current content in the Awesome bar. In my case it was a URL for which I did not have any relevant history, so I only so the mentioned lines.

Steps to reproduce:
- New Tab
- Press triangle to open pulldown menu -> shows several general history entries
- Open a website (e.g. through link bar)
- Focus awesome bar
- Press down
- You see the history entries from before
- After a short while the contents change to history entries relevant for the current URL in the Awesome bar.
ah, that sounds like bug 1291927.

Let's keep this bug to decide whether we want to show typed history only when there's nothing in the input field. Everything else is covered by other bugs.
