Details

STR: 1. On Windows 10, open Nightly's about:preferences. 2. Click the "Make Default" button. 3. Firefox opens Windows' "Set Default Programs" settings. 4. Click on the "Nightly" entry in the "Programs" list. 5. Click the "Set this program as Default". 6. Close the "Set Default Programs" window and switch back to the Nightly window. RESULT: Nightly's "Always check if Nightly is your default browser" setting cannot be unchecked. The setting is grayed out and inactive. If you close and reopen the about:preferences tab, then the "Always check if Nightly is your default browser" setting is now active as expected. I was able to reproduce this in Nightly 51 and Aurora 50. I didn't try any other Firefox versions. I'm using the Windows 10 Insider Preview "Slow" ring, if that matters.
Correction: the "Always check if Nightly is your default browser" setting cannot be unchecked even after closing the about:preferences tab or restarting Nightly. The checkbox is shown as active, not grayed out, for a couple seconds and then becomes inactive.
Summary: "Always check if Nightly is your default browser" setting is temporarily inactive after making default → "Always check if Nightly is your default browser" setting can't be unchecked after making default
