From Bugzilla Helper:
User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Win98; en-US; rv:0.9.8) Gecko/20020204
BuildID: 2002020406
I'm using Win/98 on a late model PC
On my test page the 'curved' gif in the upper right has #9cf as it's upper
portion, which is supposed to match a CSS background of #9cf just above it. In
IE 5.5/6 and Op6 it's a perfect match, but Moz and Nav4.7/6 don't match. I've
made sure that it's not a graphics editor error. I've also tested other web-safe
colors and they also show the shift.
Switching from standards to quirks mode doesn't help.
When I switch to 8 bit color it makes all web-safe colors medium gray.
IE and Opera still render perfectly at this depth.
I can't believe this behaviour is unknown, but I couldn't find any bug reports
on it.
Big John
Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1.Place gif with web-safe color on page.
2.Set CSS background color to same hex code.
3.Compare colors
Actual Results: They don't match.
Expected Results: Match!

What video card do you use? ATI? Is the problem prevalent at microsoft.com and
deadsy.com? If so believe this is a dup, and will go off to hunt it down. This
problem, BTW, is only in Win98, because I just got 2000 today and it's beautiful.

Worksforme on Linux as well. Stuart, would this be a Win9x-only problem?

Reporter, please take a look at Bug 128391 (which may itself be a dup), a
similar bug filed from a Win98 machine. Is that your bug?
And so you guys know, this bug *does* exist on Win98, because I used to have
the same problem. I can't reproduce anymore, because of my new system, but I
would suggest to the repoter to provide a screenshot.

Broken testcase :(
Jonathan Watt, can you attach the image to the bug and then attach a new
testcase to the bug where the HTML is referencing the attached image rather than
a remote image that may go away (as is the case with the current test)?

This bug has been buried in the graveyard and has not been updated in over 5 years. It is probably safe to assume that it will never be fixed, so resolving as WONTFIX.
