We need a newer cargo in tooltool in order to use source replacement for vendoring. acrichto says the commit that added support landed "Mon Aug 1 16:59:38 2016 -0700".
I believe that the Cargo on the beta channel (the upcoming 1.12.0 release of Rust) will have this support:
