I can't reproduce this on a Nexus 6P (Release 48.0 and Nightly 51.0) . As soon as I switch the tab (via the snackbar) the text selection bar is closed.

I'm using firefox from the app store, version 48.0 on Droid Maxx 2 version 6.0.1
More exact steps to reproduce: 1 Open one tab to any page (www.example.com) 2 Select text from the paragraph 3 Tap and hold on the link "More information...". 4 Select "open in new tab". Leave the text selected. 5 Switch to the new tab via snackbar 6 Wait for the page to fully load. 7 Scroll down slowly
In Beta (51.0) I can follow Comment 3 to reproduce. Cannot reproduce it in Nightly.
I can't reproduce in current Firefox (50.1.0) or Nightly (54) on Android, FWIW. However, I did run into a related issue with the "Select All" popup hovering forever after navigation, and I filed Bug 1333932 on that.
(same phone as before) I can still reproduce the bug on Firefox 50.1.0 from the app store. However, I can not reproduce the bug on app store "Firefox beta" version 52.0
I can no longer reproduce this bug on the same phone with the app store firefox. This bug is fixed.
