RESOLVED DUPLICATE of bug 129696

Details

2002031116 OS/2

Mozilla asks for filename but doesn't save as chosen file on WinDOS (windoze 95,
98, or ME) share, neither save as complete, nor as page only, nor as text. No
choice usable filename plus extension is followed by actual file writing.
Choosing "show file" from dialog shows a folder missing the file that should
have been saved.

Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1. Load any URL
2. Choose "Save Page As" from menu
3/4. Select file type "Text File"
4/3. Choose any filename of 3-8 characters.TXT on a WinDOS network drive
5. Press "OK"

Actual Results: No file is saved. File saving dialog shows download complete,
100% progress. Choosing "show file location" from dialog presents a folder
listing absent the name of the just "saved" file.

Expected Results: File is saved.

Notes. If choosing a filename of 1-8 characters and no extension, or if filename
is 1-2 characters plus ".TXT", file is saved.
Why do you keep opening these? They are all the same bug.

Saving web pages to 8.3 drives is unsupported. This is in the readme for 0.9.9.

And there is already another bug about not getting an error message.

You don't put a README in the nightlies, so I haven't seen one in a long time. I
downloaded the later PM latest-trunk build before finding the announcement of
the earlier in the day build of 0.9.9.

There is no reason to create an *_files directory when the file save chosen
requires the saving of only one file that in fact conforms to 8.3, and thus no
reason to never save anything to either FAT16B or FAT32. Mozilla should save the
asked for file first, and if the unwanted additional garbage fails to save, so what?
