Details

Rather than use bookmarks I generally let the awesomebar remember history and type in certain things to get it to suggest the pages I want and then I use up/down and enter to actually choose. So I might type part of the title of a certain page to get it to come up at the first suggestion, but the problem happens even when my desired result isn't so specific. Here's an example: 1. In the URL bar, I type something like "stack" 2. Wait a little (optional step) 3. Press down 4. Press enter If I actually wait slightly (0.5s is more than sufficient) for step 2, hitting down will select some StackOverflow page from my history and hitting enter will load the URL. However, if I skip step 2 and perform the others fast enough, this isn't what happens. Instead, I get taken to about:preferences#search. I've been using nightly versions for a couple years and this problem of getting taken to the about:preferences page started happening within the last month or two, so probably in 49 or 50. I don't know if the issue is just slowness with the suggestions filling out. I can't reproduce this on a blank profile, maybe just because without enough history I can't type fast enough. I don't know if this was always happening but only recently did the suggestions fill out slow enough that I notice it. I'm currently using a 64-bit Firefox nightly from the last week on Windows 7 SP1. I have e10s enabled and have four content processes. I'm not sure what preferences might be relevant, but here are some I have that aren't default: browser.search.suggest.enabled;false browser.urlbar.autoFill;false browser.urlbar.formatting.enabled;false browser.urlbar.trimURLs;false browser.urlbar.unifiedcomplete;false
Current Nightly may behave better, but still this is a bug. Please check bug 1303462.
