Steps to reproduce:
I am running Apple OS X 10.11.6 with Firefox 48.0.1
My problem which has just started after the latest update is that my home page keeps being reset with the Firefox start page.
Actual results:
Went into Preferences and set my Home Page to Current Page.
On quiting Firefox and then opening again the Home Page had reset to Firefox Start page with Firefox search and default options
Expected results:
I should have seen my Home page which I had set in Preferences on the Mac.

Yes, the home page then stays for each session. However, I now have persistent tabs which I have never visited and which reappear on each new session even after they have been deleted.
You should just reset your main profile to remove prefs and keep only private data:

I have tried using this procedure and it does not affect the tabs unless I clear out everything and then I return to the default home page and lose the one I have set. I have tried making a new default profile, as suggested, and done this twice now. I can set the home page but the extra tabs still appear and there is nothing I can do to remove them.
There is no option as far as I can see on the Trobleshooting Information page option apart from 'Refresh Firefox' plus another one which I also tried and did not get any further either.
I think that the best thing I can now do is to change my default to safari as that works and I do not have the time to go through these ponderous steps to solve this problem.
