Build ID: 2002-03-12-03, Windows 98. Summary: Clicking expired article link causes application hang. Steps to Reproduce: 1. Subscribe to news://news.mcom.com/rec.music.gdead. 2. Wait until a few articles expire. 3. When you receive an expired article notification, click on the HTML link to remove all expired articles. Expected Results: Expired articles should be removed after running news://nospam@news.mcom.com/rec.music.gdead?list-ids Actual Results: Clicking the link makes the thread pane turn gray, and freezes the process (you have to force the app to quit, there is no recovery possible).
Discussed in Mail News bug meeting with Engineering, QA, Mktng and PjM. Decision was to plus this bug.

this works fine for me - now, it's possible that it's just taking a long time because you have an enormous number of headers downloaded for that newsgroup, and I believe we're committing the db after every article gets expired. How many headers have you downloaded for that group?
I couldn't reproduce this on my Win2K box (using the same newsgroup), but I saw this on the 98 machine in the performance lab. Unfortunately, the nature of that machine is such that profiles get whacked semi-daily. I caught this on the weekend, but that profile has since disapppeared. Laurel probably still sees this since 98 is her native operating system.
Laurel, do you see this?
I haven't seen it again, but then I had a mishap which blotted out my old profile, so I don't have the built up expired article groups anymore. Will try in some of my other existing profiles...
Worked OK for me on mar25 commercial trunk build, win98. Will keep an eye out for it again... guess it's a worksforme now.
ok, wfm. I do believe that if you have a lot of expired articles, and a slow machine, this can look like a hang because I think we commit the db after expiring each article (there's a separate bug open on that, assigned to Seth, I believe).

Marking verified worksforme as this is working on 2002-03-28 - Windows 2000, Mandrake 8.1 and Mac OS X 10.1.3. Laurel says this is working for her now on her 9 8 system. Will reopen/refile if we see this again.
