User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64; rv:50.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/50.0 Build ID: 20160929120120 Firefox for Android Steps to reproduce: When playing back html5 media with firefox being not the foreground application, playback often stutters / jitters. Also when in background, FF is quite likely to be killed by the Android memory manager. For a short time, firefox beta provided a backgournd-service when html5 media was played back, which solved all the above issues. Unfortunately it has been removed / disabled.

Hi Clemens, In bug 1226730 a background audio shutters problem is fixed and I saw you left a comment there. Does the same symptom came back in the 0929 build? Also, for the 'killed by low mem manager' problem, could you please try 'adb shell bugreport' and upload the output here? Thanks a lot.

Hi John, My impression was this did not happen, when FF spawned a backgound service for playback - where I never experienced stutter or firefox being stopped by the memory manager. Any idea why this feature has been disabled / removed? The memmory manager thing is quite normal for android. Any "normal" (non-background-service) app, especially when using a lot memory like Firefox, will be killed when in background to free memory for more active foreground apps.
Bug 1308184 would be helpful to fix this bug.

Clemens, Our shutdown decoders has been enabled on Firefox 55 and 56. That could save some CPU resource and should let audio playback have more resource to play. Can you help check if you still can see this problem on 55 or 56?
