User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64; rv:49.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/49.0 Build ID: 20161021084537 Steps to reproduce: I am using a Dell UP2715K, it is a 5K monitor (5120 x 2880) which is exposed as two 2560x2880 side-by-side tiles/displays. To make sure that it is viewed by X as a single diplay I have had to set up a special xorg.conf file (attached), which uses Nvidia's "Twinview" approach and enables Xinerama (this disables X's RANDR extension, so this ensures that X and applications do not see the separate tiles, only the whole display). Actual results: Firefox detects the display resolution as 0x0 (screen width and height = 0), main window is very small at startup (but can be enlarged to any size), Firefox does not show any menus (no menu appears neither on right click or when the menu button is clicked). I guess that Firefox relies on XRANDR extension to detect the screen resolution, but it is unavailable in my case: $ xrandr -q RandR extension missing Expected results: Firefox should detect the correct resolution (5120 x 2880). If it relies on RANDR extension only, there must be some fallback when this extension is not available. E.g., Konqueror detects it properly.

Some more additional information: This is a hidpi display obviously, and Firefox seems to detect (layout.css.devPixelsPerPx = -1.0) the pixel ratio properly (=2), the web pages and interface look as they should be. In a fullscreen window (What I do is open http://whatsmy.browsersize.com/ , then press F11, then F5 to refresh) Firefox reports the window size in "css pixels" as well as Google Chrome does (although in Chrome the pixel ratio seems to be a bit different, but it does not matter as far as Firefox is concerned): Browser window width: 2560 Browser window height: 1439 (close enough, 1440 would be an exact 1/2 of 2880) Screen width: 0 Screen height: 0 Screen color depth: 24 The physical resolution of the display is 5120 x 2880: /var/log/Xorg.0.log: (II) NVIDIA(0): Virtual screen size determined to be 5120 x 2880
Firefox typically gets these dimensions from GDK, so there may be an issue there. Can you attach output from "xdpyinfo -ext XINERAMA" please? XINERAMA extension not supported by server The XINERAMA extension does not seem to be actually working as xdpyinfo reports, but the display resolution is reported properly. This must be a peculiarity of how Nvidia driver works. The point of enabling Xinerama is to prevent the driver from exposing screen tiles as two separate displays. (I've found this solution somewhere while googling for a suitable configuration for my display) Here is an excerpt from /var/log/Xorg.0.log: [ 8.499] (WW) NVIDIA: The Composite and Xinerama extensions are both enabled, which [ 8.499] (WW) NVIDIA: is an unsupported configuration. The driver will continue [ 8.499] (WW) NVIDIA: to load, but may behave strangely. [ 8.499] (WW) NVIDIA: Xinerama is enabled, so RandR has likely been disabled by the [ 8.499] (WW) NVIDIA: X server.
You are right, it is a GTK/GDK problem. gtk3-widget-factory reports: Monitor 0: Geometry 0x0@2 at 0,0 Size 605 x 340 mm2 I'll open a bug report at GTK's website.
I mean the GTK inspector reports that, not gtk3-widget-factory of course.
