Note that none of test cases in comment 0 has properties that can be run on the compositor (i.e. opacity and transform), but we do call EffectCompositor::RequestRestyle(layer) regardless of whether the animation has such properties when the animation starts. I guess this assertion will be gone once we introduce animation generation in Servo's RestyleManager.

Yes, but we always call EffectCompositor::RequestRestyle(layer), so I'd like to use NS_WARNING in bug 1324691
