Save-As dialog becomes disabled when tried while other tab is loading

I'm running:
Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:0.9.8+) Gecko/20020226.
When I try to download a file eg. using "Save Link As" quickly
after saying "Open In New Tab" so that the new tab is still loading,
all file saving activities become disabled for some time (in the
range of several minutes at least, even after the other tab completed
loading). Disabled means that I can't shift-left-click or right-click
to bring up the file save dialog box anymore. What I can do, however,
is to just left-click on a link and then get asked if I want the
(usually binary) file saved or opened. Emptying the caches doesn't
help most of the time, as well as restarting the browser (makes
me go for my rusty NS 4.x again).
Best,

Are there any errors in the JS console when this happens?

unable to reproduce with 1.1a+ build (061908). Please reopen if you can still
demonstrate this problem on a current build. Thanks.
