User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; WOW64; rv:50.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/50.0 Build ID: 20161208153507 Expected results: Chrome's WebExtension allow AJAX to access a local file via the "file:" protocol with the users consent (each extension has a "allow local file read" check in Chrome's extension management page), while Firefox does not. This makes porting of some Chrome extensions difficult or even impossible.
