From Bugzilla Helper: User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:0.9.9+) Gecko/20020325 BuildID: 2002032508 In my Inbox, the recipient (ie the first email address in the 'To' field in the header) of the email is listed as the 'Sender' in the 'Sender' column. The above url is a snapshot of the window displaying an email I 'bcc'd myself. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1.open the inbox and see 2. 3. Actual Results: The 'To' email address is listed in the 'Sender' column Expected Results: The 'From' email address should be listed in the 'Sender' column
Hmm. I quit mozilla and restarted it by running /usr/local/mozilla/mozilla and it looks fine. The way it was run when I saw the bug was when it started by the mozilla-installer program (which is run as root). When I run it as root : [maxw@blighty-2 ~]$ su [maxw@blighty-2 maxw]# /usr/local/mozilla/mozilla and select 'maxw' from the list, it shows the same problem. Perhaps I am mis-understanding the meaning of 'profile' and the 'maxw' selected on the menu when run as 'su'd to root, isn't the same as my profile when I run it as 'maxw'. If so, then it is likely a config issue with the 'maxw'/'root' profile. Can anyone clear me up on this? Max.

Nope, this still isn't fixed on 2002042210. See the image here : <http://reality.exsgi.org/maxw/tmp/133370.jpg> The address listed under the 'Sender' column is what appears in the 'To:' header of the email. In fact, when there are multiple addresses in the 'To:' header, it takes just the first one. Max.

Can you test it with a new profile? (mozilla -profilemanager, create a new profile, use it, and try again)
OK, this is what I tried. As user 'maxw', I created a new profile using 'mozilla -profilemanager'. I called the new profile 'test'. I then did : $ cd $ mv .mozilla/maxw ~/maxw.mozilla $ mv .mozilla/test .mozilla/maxw So, the new profile is the default for user 'maxw'. Then, as before : $ su # mozilla -profilemanager then select user maxw etc etc. The messages are all listed with their 'To:' as the sender. NOTE: Creating a new profile while 'su', didn't reproduce the problem, and new profiles created while 'maxw' weren't listed by 'mozilla -profilemanager', so I couldn't try it that way either. Max.
I can confirm this bug under Mac OS X, Mozilla 1.0 rc2 buildID: 2002051005. This bug should be fixed for 1.0. I downloaded the .dmg for OS X, copied it to my applications folder, launched Mozilla and my inbox for 1 of my IMAP accounts (work, SSL connection) is showing this, while the other (personal, non SSL connection) shows up correctly. When I reply to the message, it replies to the correct sender. Bug 143734, bug 109985 and bug 114533 seem to be related to this bug. Marking OS as ALL, since I can't choose Linux and Mac OS X. I haven't seen anyone report this problem under windows.

Here is a possible cause/solution that was causing this problem on my Mac OS 9.1: When you request in the preferences, that all "sent" messages be placed in the Inbox, it reverses the sender and receiver in the Inbox. By having all "sent" messages placed into any other folder such as the Sent Folder, everything is listed properly (Change preference file to send "sent" emails to "sent" folder, quit Mozilla, and then open Mozilla again and all is well). This was not an issue in Navigator/Communicator, so there is something that needs to be changed to fix this bug. My preference is to have all messages, both sent and received in one folder for easy referencing or to follow a complete thread.
This is still a problem with Mozilla 1.0 on Windows. I created a new profile. I started up Mozilla mail. I sent myself a message from another account. The 'Sender' field displayed the correct sender. I then changed the Mail preferences to point to my old Netscape 4.7 mail directory. I restarted Mozilla mail. At this point, all the messages in my Inbox had the recipient in the 'Sender' field. This is not a problem with Netscape 4.7.
