Go to http://java.sun.com. Then click on the left where it says "Original
Java.sun.com Home". Then on the right you will see a place that says "Click
here to get the plugin". You click it, and the Java 2 runtime is downloaded and
installed. It states success when completed, however I still get prompted to
"Click here to get the plugin" whenever I go to a page that has a Java 2 applet.

Please always add the build ID in a bug report !
and please read the release notes before you file a bug !
from the release notes:
If Java doesn't work, make sure the following is true:
On Windows:
Copy the NPOJI610.DLL from C:\JDK*\jre\bin to "\plugins" directory of your
installation.
(it's npoji60..dll with JRe1.3.x)

That is great, and I can copy that DLL over to the Mozilla install
directory. I would think, however, that the installer should do this when the
Java 2 runtime was finished being installed. Is this going to be fixed in the
future?
there are bug 75651 and bug 100393 about this.
