OK, seems there is a bug in bugzilla as well that stops the text insertion after emoticons
iPhone 6S Plus, iOS 10.2.1, Firefox Beta Version 6.0 (9) When there is an emoticon in the URL, when first tapping the URL bar, the text is displayed and highlighted, but the emoticons are not visible. Because of the bugzilla bug, assume that "?" in the STRs are emoticons STR: 1. Type "yo?" in the URL bar 2. Dismiss the emoticon keyboard 3. Tap "Go" on the regular keyboard 4. Tap on the URL bar [5]. Tap again on the URL bar Actual Results: 3. Google tries to search for "yo?" 4. "yo" appears in the URL bar and is highlighted [5]. "yo?" appears in the URL bar and is not highlighted Expected Results: 4. "yo?" appears in the URL bar and is highlighted
Tested on latest Nightly 841fa1bf. The emoticons are not displayed when the URL is highlighted. The emoticons are correctly displayed in Safari or Chrome.
Can we retest against an older version of Firefox? We've had to disable punycode support in the URL bar because of security issues.

I'm able to reproduce this issue with or without the punycode support. Not a recent regression.
