Belarusian used to ship with the following searchplugins be-x-old.wikipedia.org be.wikipedia.org google ru.wikipedia.org-be tut.by yahoo yandex.by We need to keep Google, Yahoo, and Yandex. Is tut.by still relevant? I would really like to reduce the number of Wikipedia searchplugins, since there's no easy way to distinguish them. If it's not possible to drop one of the two Belarusian versions, can we at least remove the Russian one? I'll use the defaults for protocol handlers (mail, feed).
Yes, we can remove Russian Wikipedia.
I am pretty sure tut.by is not relevant, very few users use it as I can see living here in Belarus. Maybe Firefox collects some statistic about this, so we can be sure?
>the defaults for protocol handlers (mail, feed)
What does it mean?

(In reply to meequz from comment #1) > I am pretty sure tut.by is not relevant, very few users use it as I can see > living here in Belarus. Maybe Firefox collects some statistic about this, so > we can be sure? Since we don't have builds anymore, that would be a bit complicated. At this point I would just remove it, in the future we can review the list of shipping searchplugins as needed (there's also a legal process to get authorization from them). > >the defaults for protocol handlers (mail, feed) > What does it mean? mailto and feed handlers: when you click on a mailto:// link, or subscribe to a RSS feed, you can set some default online services to manage these actions. https://hg.mozilla.org/mozilla-central/file/default/browser/locales/en-US/chrome/browser-region/region.properties Default for localized builds is to keep Yahoo and Google as mailto handlers, we usually add NetVibes for feeds because it's one of the few services still online, and it's localizable. That's also what Belarusian used to ship with.

Correction: * I forgot that we also ship ddg for all languages, will include that. * We don't ship Yahoo in any of the countries where we have Yandex, I think we can skip it for Belarusian too since there's no localized version (it was probably included from the old times). The final list would be: yandex-by google wikipedia-be wikipedia-be-old ddg

Looks like x-be-old is redirecting to be-tarask, using this URL instead. @ Mikhas' (hoping that's the correct name) Can you provide the translation for "Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia" in both versions of Belarusian? The result should be the same as these images https://be-tarask.wikipedia.org/static/images/project-logos/be_x_oldwiki.png https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/be/b/bc/Wiki.png

>At this point I would just remove it, in the future we can review the list of shipping searchplugins Ok >mailto and feed handlers Oh, sure. Skipping Yahoo is ok, as it is used even less frequently than tut.by. >Looks like x-be-old is redirecting to be-tarask, using this URL instead. Yes, it has been renamed. Translation for "Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia": be: "Вікіпедыя, свабодная энцыклапедыя" be-tarask: "Вікіпэдыя, вольная энцыкляпэдыя" Will these strings be used in search box pop-up? Now I see in my Firefox such text for different Belarusian Wikipedia engines: "Вікіпедыя (be)" and "Вікіпэдыя (be-tarask)". So will they be replaced with provided ones? Currents are more explicit and easy to distinguish.

Thanks for the quick translation, will have a patch shortly. > Will these strings be used in search box pop-up? Now I see in my Firefox > such text for different Belarusian Wikipedia engines: "Вікіпедыя (be)" and > "Вікіпэдыя (be-tarask)". So will they be replaced with provided ones? No, they won't replace them. In Firefox the tooltip corresponds to the <shortName> attribute, and for Wikipedia we need to use the same of the official ones, otherwise you'll be asked to install another searchplugin when visiting the website. https://hg.mozilla.org/mozilla-central/file/tip/browser/locales/searchplugins/wikipedia.xml#l6 <description> is currently unused in the UI, but I prefer to have a valid value for consistency, in case we start using them.

I'm really confused. I thought we got rid of the Belarusian build?

(In reply to Mike Kaply [:mkaply] from comment #9) > I'm really confused. I thought we got rid of the Belarusian build? We tried to find new volunteers to work on it for over 2 years. We managed to find them only after Belarusian was removed from release a few months back. At this point we're adding them back and let the localization live in DevEdition only for a few cycles.

We should have localized builds for Belarusian starting from tomorrow, but note that searchplugins will be updated only next week, after Merge Day (next Monday). I will also need to land a small fix to region.properties, as soon as trees reopen.
