With bug 1339220 we now have hooks where we can do stuff when the compositor starts/ends running compositor animations. This might be useful to surface in gecko profiles.

With bug 1338347 we have even more information that we can expose to profiles.

Most of this code was removed in https://hg.mozilla.org/mozilla-central/rev/4f734b7b3c44 and would need to be restored.
