With Mozilla 0.9.9, watch how much CPU time the browser requires (1) when it's doing nothing in background and (2) while the mouse button is held down on the Mozilla icon in the dock. The former is typically 10% to 15%, which is one-hundredfold what it ought to be, and the latter is 75% to 80%. This is with OS 10.1.3 on a dual-USB iBook.

G4/450, 20020310 (0.9.9 release)
I see similar numbers, though not quite as bad. Whe Moz is idling in the
background, it takes up between 0.8% and 5% of the CPU. Some applications show
similar numbers (iTunes oscillates wildly between 0.0% and 25%, with spikes
every couple seconds), but most don't (the Finder is 0.0% consistently, as are
Project Builder and TextEdit). Obviusly, we should strive to imitate the latter
camp.
From what I can see, when *any* icon is clicked and held on the Dock, Moz begins
to take up about 75% of the CPU. Other applications do not exhibit this behavior.

This is almost certainly a bug of the various Carbon event handling bugs being
tracked by bug 106689.

We don't consider the amount of CPU time Mozilla spends while idling to be
excessive. Possibly it could be less but as Nick commented we're not alone in
this camp. Someday we'll be better.
That the CPU usage pegs when the mouse is down in any dock icon and Mozilla is
the foreground app is a valid complaint. Changing the summary to reflect this.
Assigning to ccarlen since he was the source of the answer for the last "Moz
eats CPU while mouse button down" problem.

Not sure if this is related, but CPU usage jumps when the scroll bar is clicked
on, also. See attachment.

mozilla takes 100% of the CPU whenever you hold down the mouse and the
application is in focus.
