what's your cpu speed, and how much memory do you have? It shouldn't lock up. I just downloaded a 22,500 msg newsgroup without locking up. What's the newsgroup? Is it any newsgroup, or a particular newsgroup?
CPU speed : Celeron 633 + 256 Mb DSL line, using a local newserver (in order to merge newsgroups lists), called hamster. Both : fr.soc.religion (4780 messages) fr.soc.sectes (1179 messages) Mozilla stop replying and freeze. Having a lot of problem with 30th march build.
After testing, it seems to be an hamster (my local software mail/news server) limit. What a pity :-/
How so? We still shouldn't freeze. Does it just stop giving back headers after a certain point? Can you attach an NNTP protocol log? http://www.mozilla.org/quality/mailnews/mail-troubleshoot.html#nntp
When using Hamster (after 1500 messages), Mozilla stops responding. Headers are not read anymore. Windows says that the program give no response and I have to kill mozilla. And no, I cannot give you a log. Sorry :-/
