Attached file virginmedia.xml
User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64) AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/57.0.2987.110 Safari/537.36 Steps to reproduce: Virgin Media has changed the recommended mail settings for its domains. Virginmedia.com, blueyonder.co.uk, ntlworld.com and virgin.net now all use the same settings. Actual results: The ISPDB currently contains separate settings for each of the four domains. Expected results: Please add the attached file for an update of the settings for Virgin Media.
Email Settings for all Virgin Media domains (virginmedia.com, blueyonder.co.uk, ntlworld.com & virgin.net) Settings information updated on the: March 16, 2017. https://help.virginmedia.com/system/templates/selfservice/vm/help/customer/locale/en-GB/portal/200300000001000/article/HELP-2203/Email-Settings-for-all-Virgin-Media-domains SMTP: smtp.virginmedia.com 465 SSL pasword-cleartext Username: %EMAILADDRESS% IMAP: imap.virginmedia.com 993 SSL password-cleartext Username: %EMAILADDRESS% POP3: pop3.virginmedia.com 995 SSL Password-cleartext Username: %EMAILADDRESS% ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- virgin media have updated the email settings for the following domains so they all use the same settings. <domain>virginmedia.com<domain> <domain>ntlworld.com<domain> <domain>blueyonder.co.uk<domain> <domain>virgin.net<domain>
As noted by chief_uk_2613, we do have a self-hosted config. But because other mail clients only consult the ISPDB and not the self-hosted config we would love to see the attached file added to the ISPDB.
Note: Certificate issue when using https The certificate is only valid for the following names: autodiscover.virgin.net, autodiscover.blueyonder.co.uk, autodiscover.ntlworld.com, autodiscover.virginmedia.com https://autoconfig.virginmedia.com/mail/config-v1.1.xml https://autoconfig.ntlworld.com/mail/config-v1.1.xml https://autoconfig.blueyonder.co.uk/mail/config-v1.1.xml https://autoconfig.virgin.net/mail/config-v1.1.xml
Correct, but that certificate is not used by the ISPDB. To update the Virgin Media settings in the ISPDB, please refer to the XML file attached to this bug and validate it with the documentation published on the Virgin Media website: https://help.virginmedia.com/system/templates/selfservice/vm/help/customer/locale/en-GB/portal/200300000001000/article/HELP-2203/Email-Settings-for-all-Virgin-Media-domains
Just wanted to note the certificate issue as some other mail clients may only use https not http so will not use the autoconfig from the email provider (Virgin Media) because of the certificate issue All the lookup mechanisms use the email address domain as base for the lookup. For example, for the email address example@virginmedia.com , the lookup is performed as (in this order): 1. tb-install-dir/isp/virginmedia.com.xml on the harddisk 2. check for self-hosted autoconfig (some other mail clients may only use https) 3. look up of "virginmedia.com" in the ISPDB 4. look up "MX virginmedia.com" in DNS, and for mx1.mail.hoster.com, look up "hoster.com" in the ISPDB 5. try to guess (imap.virginmedia.com, smtp.virginmedia.com etc.) NOTE: tb-install-dir = Thunderbird Installation Directory
OK, now you got me curious. What mail clients only use https for self-hosted autoconfig?
"some other mail clients may only use https not http"
OK, but can you give examples of such mail clients?
(In reply to Jacco de Leeuw from comment #10) > OK, but can you give examples of such mail clients? Firefox OS gaia mail only checks https:// ( https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=985740#c11 )
