User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; Intel Mac OS X 10.12; rv:52.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/52.0 Build ID: 20170323105023 Steps to reproduce: For one example, I tried to read this article: https://www.forbes.com/sites/emilywillingham/2017/04/01/no-foolin-forget-about-autism-awareness-and-lighting-up-blue/ Actual results: Many sites have large sidebars on one or both sides. These can make sites harder to read, and can create sheer effects as I try to scroll. Some are worse than others, but higher contrast gives me more trouble. Many sites also have animated top bars. These also make sites harder to read, and can create sheer effects as I try to scroll, but animation as I try to scroll. These are also a problem. Expected results: I tried to use multi-kill to eliminate the sidebar. Unfortunately, on the above site, this triggered animation in some items in the sidebar, and couldn't eliminate the sidebar without eliminating the main text too. I then blocked Javascript and got a blank page. It would be very helpful to have some way to remove unwanted elements to leave a readable page.
Failing that, a way to narrow the sidebars and widen the main article might help.

The Reader Mode feature helps with this request.
Component: Untriaged → Reader Mode
Product: Firefox → Toolkit
I tried Reader Mode first. "failed to load article from page."

Difficult to say why it didn't work for you. Works here with Firefox 52.0.2

(In reply to MarjaE from comment #3) > I tried Reader Mode first. "failed to load article from page." Is this still what reader mode does for you? Like Aryx, I can't reproduce... if you're still seeing this, does the same thing happen on a clean profile?

I get a blank page. Strobes, zooms, and certain other animations trigger my migraines. It isn't safe to use *any* browser without animation-blocking fixes-- so I can't try a "clean profile."

Can you post a list of preferences, userChrome/userContent changes and add-ons that you're using to block animations, so we can try to reproduce with those and figure out what's going on?

If I remove Forbes from my Javascript Blacklist, the page now loads, and reader view eliminates the sidebar problem.
