1353426 - Duplication of <select> <option> elements and styling forwarding is not sustainable

As seen by the work necessary for bug 910022, there are many cases that have to be implemented to properly forward styling from the content process to the parent process to make the parent-process popup resemble what the content process desired. There are also other cases that need to be handled specially such as bug 1351080. Another bug is that we can't interpolate CSS transition values on the parent-process popup (https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1352963#c6).

Is there some way that we can make this work and still have the <select> popup in the style tree of the content process? I don't know of a way, but this bug is filed to highlight the issue in the event someone else figures it out.

Attachment: Bug 1353426 - Use MozAfterPaint to update the styling of the popup each time there is a repaint while it is open.

This solution is probably the least-performant approach but does fix displaying the immediate values during a transition. However there are cases where it causes flickering and jumping around of the selected item, evidenced by applying this patch and using attachment 8854292 [details].
