Details
Starting some days ago, I often have Problems with anchor-navigation, the same
in all my mozilla-versions 0.9.7, 0.9.8, 0.9.9 and
Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Win98; de-AT; rv:0.9.9+) Gecko/20020319
Some Anchors work, some do not.
Absolutely no anchor works in newsletter of
http://www.tagesschau.de
example-file:
http://home.t-online.de/home/Bielefeld__Buss_oHG/mozilla/Inbox.html
an example will also be delivered as att.
The wong character-display may be because of missing css for example?
But that seems not to have to do anything with the Problem.
How to reproduce the Bug:
1. open link with browser:
http://home.t-online.de/home/Bielefeld__Buss_oHG/mozilla/Inbox.html
2. click on link "430 Millionen DNA...."
expected result: text for " 430 Millionen DNA-Paare...." should be shown
actual result: page moves a little, but no jump to anchor.
There are no Problems to find the anchors in this page with NC4.7, IE6, opera.
Info.:
I see several other "anchor-Problems", but actually not so easy reproducable

Because I have a little suspicion that this might be a Problem if my system
(but, why is there no Problem with the other Browsers?), I tried with a new
Profile, but without success. Maybe bas another test I should try to Uninstall
mozilla completely?
Is there noone who could try with win89SE?
Do you see a possibility o find out moe exactly what happpens on my PC?
Summary: Navigating anchors does not work → Navigating with anchors does not work

Can you try a new profile ?
run "mozilla -profilemanager" and create an additional test profile

I tried with new profile 2 times:
2002-04-06 00:56
I Started mozilla after I had deleted the only used profile, so that mozilla
dreated a new one based on my NC4.7- profile
Today
I created a new "empty" profile with profile-manager.
Same Result with both profiles: anchors do not wor in example-file
_and_in_mozilla_Help_:
I can select the "headlines" as
- welcome
- Browsing the web
- Using Mail
.
.
.
- Managing Profiles
by using the navigation tree in the sidebar
I can go to the sub-chapters as
- Creating a New Profile
- Deleting or Renaming a Profile
by using the navigation tree in the sidebar.
I also can use the [ Return to beginning of section ] -links in bigger chapters
I can not use the anchor-links at the top of the pages!
May be interesting what I found during my tests with Mozilla HELP:
In chapter "Cosumizing mozilla" (for example) link at tze Top of the pate to
"Opening, Closing, and Resizing Sidebar" does not work.
But I can use the Link address
"chrome://help/locale/customize_help.html#cust_sidebar_openclose" withour
Problem, if I copy it into the URL-Input of a normal Navigator-Window: then the
Page will be shown with the headline "Opening, Closing, and Resizing the Sidebar"
Same correct result, if I click on the link with right mouse-button anc choose "
open in a New Window". This also works with correct function on my example-URL

I succeeded in creating / installing a new mozilla 0.9.9 - Version without this
problem. I think that it does not make any sense that this "Bug" will be checked
by any other one until I will have found out, which component causes the problem.
If the troublemaking component will be found a decision will be possible whether
this will have to be examinated or whether it is only a problem in my personal
file-system.

Until now I did not find the troublemaking component, but in between it is
nearly absolutely shure, that the problem was caused by a damaged
mozilla-component on my PC: all new installations run without that Problem. So I
decided to close this bug.

Additionally:
This problem actually only happens with
Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Win98; en-US; rv:1.0rc1) Gecko/20020425
With the 0rc1 20020417 there are no problems with this anchor.
Because we had anchor problems coming and going several times, I think, this
should be examined.

Now I saw, that it is not an anchor- problem, but a html-problem.
mozilla sometimes does not recognize the
"-->" in a "--------------------------------------------------------->"
and so the whole part of the page seems to be a comment. This can easyly eb seen
in the soruce code of the page: search for "fuehr5", and yo will see the whole
part of the page following to the anchor is in green colour
may be more or less "tech evangelism"?
QA should decide how to work on this problem

Resolving as duplicate of bug 137628, per reporter's comment 11
I don't see the page loading with visible comments, and all anchors work OK.
