Details
User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 10.0; Win64; x64; rv:53.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/53.0 Waterfox/53.0
Build ID: 20170421161306
Steps to reproduce:
This occurred within the last 24 hours for me. I was running Waterfox, which I assume updated within the past day or so, and I had Bitdefender as my active anti-virus.
Bitdefender may have updated within the last couple days, and I just recently received the updated virus database or something along those lines. (In short, I don't know when the updates hit, but my browser was definitely working 8-10 hours ago on the same setup.)
Another user reported this same issue on reddit, I requested that he disable Bitdefender's active protection like I did, and Waterfox/Firefox returned to normal just like mine.
Actual results:
The browser stalls almost completely, for me Waterfox was eating up nearly 2 CPU cores. And the browser is completely unresponsive. You have to wait like a full minute for each character to be inserted in the search bar, all menus are laggy, etc.
I uninstalled Firefox and Waterfox, delete all my %appdata% mozilla folders in both roaming and local, then reinstalled. I tried disabling e10, and hardware accelation via safe mode. (which worked)
I deleted my profile, and restarted without addons (from safe-mode) and it still hung when not in safe mode.
As soon as bitdefender active protection is disabled the CPU usage drops back to like 1% and the browser is responsive again.

Here's the reddit thread in question, where another user has also chimed in with the same problem. (Definitely confirming a conflict between Waterfox/Firefox + Bitdefender)
