Details
User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; Intel Mac OS X 10.12; rv:53.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/53.0
Build ID: 20170504105526
Steps to reproduce:
Firefox won't consistently remember the "Last Used Settings" in my print window. The majority of the time it selects one of my two printers, which is NOT the printer that I last used. This issue has persisted over the last several updates:
1. I followed the FF support guidelines and went to about:config and reset the "print_printer" setting, however the problem still remained.
2. I subsequently followed the support instructions to reset all of the Firefox printer settings in my profile folder by removing all lines in prefs.js that start with "print_ " however the problem still persisted.
3. I did a full reset/refresh of my Firefox browser in hopes that would solve the problem, but it did not.
4. This problem does NOT occur in Safari. The print window always defaults to the last printer I used.
Actual results:
Almost every time I go to print something, Firefox will not remember the last printer that I used. Whether I am printing an email with my laser printer, or printing a PDF in color with my ink jet printer, Firefox will not consistently default to the preset "Last Used Settings." I have to manually select the printer that I want for each print job, 95% of the time.
Expected results:
My print window should open and default to the last printer I used, because the Preset is set to "Last Used Settings." Instead, I have to keep manually selecting the last printer I used over and over.
Note: I do not know this is relevant but after going to about:config and scrolling down to print.macosx.pagesetup-2, there is an enormous string of text there. This is more obvious when opening my user profile folder in a finder window, where the text takes up an entire page. Could this endless string of text have anything to do with the problem I am experiencing? All of my other preferences take up just one line.
I saw a 2010 Mozilla support entry where someone suggested to reset that particular preference, however I assumed a full refresh of Firefox would've taken care of that. I went back to my user profile after performing a full refresh of FF and noticed that this particular preference still contains an extremely long string of text that takes up an entire page. I was afraid to manually reset this preference without your guidance, in case I end up causing other difficulties.
