Some links are not downloadable with the default downloader. (I have
observed this several times.) The links are always gettable with "wget"
for this specific problem. I have observed this behaviour multiple times, but
it is pretty rare.
An example file: Try downloading the link
"Parker.Partial.Order.Programming.ps.Z" at the bottom of the "POP" section
on the page http://www.cs.ucla.edu/~stott/pop/ . The actual URL of that
link is http://www.cs.ucla.edu/~stott/pop/Parker.Partial.Order.Programming.ps.Z
. Galeon cannot get the file for some reason using its default downloader
(the downloader just silently exits, without creating a file), whereas wget
gets it fine. According to Yanko Kaneti in Galeon bugzilla bug number 78574 (
http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=78574 ), this same behaviour is
visible in Mozilla with its downloader too.

If you remove "compress" from Advanced -> HTTP Networking -> Accept-Encoding,
the download works fine.
I think mozilla tries to decompress the file and fails.

Duplicate of "Mozilla is sending an Accept-encoding for deflate and compress but
doesn't support it."
