I believe this is a recent regression, AdBlock Plus was slowing down Firefox for Android before but not nearly as much. I have version 2.9.1 on a Nexus 5. uBlock Origin is fine.
OS: Unspecified → Android
Hardware: Unspecified → ARM
I think part of the problem is that it uses too much memory. When I close Firefox, I can see that the homescreen was killed in the meantime.

My guess is the handling of large amounts of data through storage.local, there are other bugs about this on Desktop. I'm making an assumption that 2.9.1 is the Embedded WebExtension version.

I can't reproduce now, but the conditions are totally different (first of all, different phone).
