Details
User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; Win64; x64; rv:54.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/54.0 Build ID: 20170608105825 Steps to reproduce: All I want is to create toolbar buttons to toggle the Bookmarks and History sidebars in one click, as it was possible before the s- Australis interface. Currently, even such a simple task is not possible :\ See also this question on Stack Overflow: https://stackoverflow.com/questions/44741462/firefox-webextension-toolbar-buttons-to-toggle-sidebars
I agree. Most sidebar-addon designers will want a dedicated open/close button. It would make also sense to offer two browser actions per sidebar-addon. The standard bookmarking tool has the "bookmark this page" star icon AND and a button which opens a panel (which again allows to open the sidebar) Forcing users two install two separate addons to get a similar ui (see: https://mail.mozilla.org/pipermail/dev-addons/2017-May/002837.html ) is a strange workaround.

Reopening. Duplicate ticket or not, we're still waiting for such basic functionalities to be implemented, and it becomes more and more pressing.

I need this functionality, what good is a sidebar that no one can find.

This got fixed in bug 1341126, that's what the duplicate means. Please don't file copies of bugs as a way to "vote" for them.
