Assertion failed error during installation

Details
This bug is reproducible on the latest few nightly builds; possibly before.
If you download a nightly build for i386 Linux and run it as root from a KDE
console window, it will shower you with "Assertion failed" errors in the console
window towards the end of downloading packages.
The reason for these errors is that the installer continues downloading packages
even after the progress bar reaches its 100%. So if it says that there is 12004
KB of stuff to download, in actuality it downloads maybe 13000 KB. During
downloading of that extra megabyte, the console is filled with these "assertion
failed" errors.
This behavior has repeated for two different nightly builds.
