User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 10.0; Win64; x64; rv:56.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/56.0
Build ID: 20170722072631
Steps to reproduce:
Click the "Bookmarks" button.
Actual results:
There are too many default bookmarks.
Expected results:
Show no default bookmarks at all; show *only* the user's bookmarks.
Regardless of how often users may or may not click the current default bookmarks, I do not believe they are appreciated. They clutter the default experience. Chrome is comparatively clean.
The following is the default for Firefox:
--View Bookmarks Sidebar
--Show All Bookmarks
--5 bookmarks under "Recently Bookmarked."
--View Pocket List
--Bookmarks Toolbar
--Other Bookmarks
--Recent Tags
--Mozilla Firefox
--Show All Bookmarks (yes, again)
See screenshot for complete list.
I would show only the following:
--Bookmarks Toolbar
--(list of user's bookmarks not in the Bookmarks Toolbar)
This would make it simpler to understand for new users and closer to what other browsers already offer.

Component: Untriaged → Bookmarks & History
I've attached an image comparison between the default bookmarks of Chrome and Firefox.
As you can see, Chrome is completely empty, whereas Firefox is a difficult-to-understand mess. Pretty easy to see why Firefox users would have more difficulty with bookmarks.
