Actual results: No sound playback - note with "install pulseaudio" appears. Our installation won't have pulseaudio or jack, only ALSA. Expected results: I want a sound playback.

Same problem here after upgrading one of my laptops from 45ESR to 52ESR. I found "apulse" on github which is a wrapper which makes it work, but it's far from ideal. I'd hope that FF developers reconsider their choices, because breaking sound on supported distros while at the same time trying to constantly encourage users to upgrade is not compatible. I'm rolling back to 45ESR (which works fine) and will only upgrade to a new version when I decide to upgrade my distro. It's really sad to have to choose between security and sound. Really. By the way my home PC has pulseaudio installed and firefox works very poorly there. I happen to have an extra sound card on the PCI bus and once in a while for an unknown reason the sound changes to the other card, so I have to go behind the PC, unplug the cable and connect it into the other plug. This sound system is horrible to use and I definitely don't want to have to support this on my everyday laptop!
Security is not the only issue with PulseAudio - it is the single most CPU gobbling process on my system apart from Xorg. This has always been a problem with PulseAudio. I think it's unacceptable for such an insignificant process to consume this much resource.
