Details

Build: 2002041712 I start with 3-pane view of Inbox or other folder. Select a folder by highlighting it. Select and immediately drag an email title in upper right pain, as if to move it to another folder. Observe: drag fails, and a contextual menu appears instead. Reproducibility: most but not all the time. Note: I'm using a touchpad with clicking enabled, on PowerBook G3/500 Firewire. Importantce: User intent may be to click-drag a spam email to trash without otherwise previewing it in the three-pane preview mode, in order to prevent any beacon gifs to be loaded. The failure to click-drag causes user to click in such a way as to dismiss the contextual menu, which often can lead to unintended previewing of the email. Note: this behavior - the dropping of a contextual menu - is seen by many users in IE, such as clicking a personal toolbar URL... the contextual menu drops. There may be a quirk in OS X that causes this.
